Things to consider before buying a Laptop

Buying a laptop could be very easy work, but buying the best laptop is very tedious. Although you can go around the internet looking for reviews of different laptops. But before that one needs to do his/her own research in other words there are quite a few things to consider before buying a laptop.

In this post we have compiled a list of things to consider before buying a laptop, therefore, I request you to read till the end and let us know about your view in the comment.

Why you need laptop?

Yes, the first and foremost thing to consider before buying a laptop is, what’s your need? Some laptops are designed very specific to a particular need, therefore such laptops usually perform the best for that purpose. For instance, If you are buying a high tech gaming laptop and all you do is like filling out your daily spreadsheets then it’s like having a gym membership when you don’t even walk. So first thing first sorts out your need. So without more talk below is a list that gives a laptop category depending on need.

Buying Laptops For Daily Needs:

Okay, I agree daily use would be different for everyone, but what I mean here is like watching movies, filling out spreadsheets, creating reports, playing games that don’t have huge graphics requirements, or maybe when you are starting to get along with computers.

Well, if yes then you don’t need to spend a lot as a pretty usual laptop can fullfill your need. In brief you may go with below specs for your requirements

Desired specifications of best laptops for general use

ProcessorYou should go up to intel i3 or AMD A6 (i5 would be luxury for such requirements), checkout for clock speed. If it’s more than 2Ghz, it’s a good one
Hard DiscIf you need it for office work which doesn’t have much storage requirements, go for SSD. Its capacity will be less but it will be very smooth to work and you can always buy an external hard drive. But if you need more storage capacity then you should aim for 1 TB
Ram4GB is pretty much good enough for you
DVDI would say, it’s a must-have as you never know when you will need one, so look for DVD-RW drive
USB portsLook for USB3.0 port counts, usually, laptops have 2 which is good
HDMI portYou may wanna watch a movie on a big screen, an HDMI port is always a good option. So look for one. Nowadays all laptop provide one
OSMy personal choice is Linux OS(Ubuntu specifically) as I don’t like wasting money for windows, however, if you buy a window PC it’s price will be at least 3k higher than Linux PC, So try Ubuntu, if you do not feel good then you can always buy and install Window
GraphicsFor low-end requirement, usually, the laptop’s inbuilt graphics card is enough
Screen SizeI prefer 14 inches, but if you are looking to play games, watching a movie and you do not have a bigger screen, go for 15.6, it doesn’t add much to the price

Also, We have compiled a list of the Best laptops under 30000 all of them which suits such requirements. But if you are ready to spend more, wanna have it all, and hate to compromise with class, I suggest you go for a MacBook

Laptops for Students or developers:

Generally, laptops for students who are learning to code or for developers need to be faster. Generally, they also need such a machine which supports games at least some medium level graphics, Their requirements are all which above mentioned daily users have and speed for faster programming and build processes. So Without more talk Below are the specs I will suggest to go for

Desired Specification of laptop for Student or developers

ProcessorThe minimum I repeat the MINIMUM you need is an Intel i5, although I suggest you to go for i7 because you’ll eventually get there
Hard DiscIf you are into gaming then look for 1TB but what’s must is SSD. there are laptops which come with both SSD and HDD. If you are professional or starting a job as a developer, make sure you have a minimum of 128GB SDD, and run all your codes from that drive (for the build)
RamYou need a minimum of 8GB
DVDIt’s good to have, Generally, we’ll be good with USBs
USB portsLook for USB3.0 port counts, usually, laptops have 2 which is good
HDMI portI would say a must and Since I also suggest you have an extra monitor. You’ll understand once you have it
OSIf you are into gaming then obviously windows but if not then go for Linux PC. Also if you have windows then you can have Linux with dual boot. But if you are not much into gaming then I will suggest you save some bucks and go for a DOS machine or Linux machine
GraphicsYou will be needing a dedicated graphics card, find one which comes with at least 2GB graphics card ( my recommendation would be Nvidia)
Screen SizeSince I suggest to add a monitor, 14 inches screen is a good buy, but look for resolution, You might wanna have 1920*1080, at least in Monitor

Laptops For Gamers:

Firstly, I do not think a gamer would be looking for a blog like this on suggesting how to find the best machine, rather they will be looking for reviews of devices they need in their machine. Yes, I say deviceS, since gamers love customized machines. Although there are plenty of gaming laptops available my personal choice goes with customized PC for the best gaming experience.
